Have you ever passed by an unfamiliar business and thought to yourself, "I need to check that place out someday."? I do so frequently, and this week I actually stopped in to one!
En route to tried & true Target, I take the scenic drive from Excelsior (via Minnetonka Blvd through Deephaven). Scanning my eyes across the small, outdated strip-mall (Deephaven Court) that looks to be more of a business center, I see a sign for "Candy & Gifts". And this time I turned in. Tucked in the back, I'm happy to find a cute brick storefront, Donamae's - A Sweet Studio! A hidden gem that transports you to simpler times.

It all began over 30 years ago with a mom's recipes for Chocolate Pecan Corn, and Caramel Almond Cashew Crunch. Donamae Koppelman enjoyed creating these can't-eat-just-one handful treats, which were the most highly anticipated item at any gathering she attended. Lucky for us, she decided to share her signature treats with the Lake Minnetonka community! Carrying on Donamae's (Donna-May's) special assortment, daughter Nancy & granddaughter Jaclyn added their own signature touches, plus an assortment of fine chocolates and other yummies, when they opened the doors at Donamae's - A Sweet Studio 18283 Minnetonka Blvd.
This quaint studio is perfect for a quick pop-in to treat the kids, and yourself. You'll walk in and feel like you've gone back to a more safe & innocent time, when sugar wasn't a bad word.
They offer curated gift boxes as well as custom kits, and of course you can create your own giftable bundle. Keep Donamae's at the top of your list for gifting this holiday season (hostess gifts, corporate gifts, and a thoughtful & unique local choice for a thank you gift).
From popcorn to chocolates, this local women-owned (for 3 generations) business is a bright spot in an otherwise dull retail area. BONUS: Deephaven Court does have plans for renovations and new businesses already in the works!
